Short answer. Since 2 September 2026 Malaysia Airlines flies direct KL–Fukuoka (MH56, 6h 20m, five times a week). Fukuoka is the door to Kyushu: a smaller, cheaper, less crowded city than Tokyo, with hot springs (Beppu, Yufuin) and Nagasaki within 1–2 hours. 5 days 4 nights costs about RM4,000 per person all in, about RM3,450 with the MH MATTA Fair promo (up to 30% off, book by 14 September 2026).

4. Three things Malaysians should know

  1. Halal is harder than in Tokyo. Fukuoka has Muslim-friendly restaurants but far fewer. Bring the [label cheat sheet](/halal-labels-japan-convenience-store/) and plan dinners early; konbini and raw-fish sushi are safe choices for most people.
  2. Train tickets are cheaper online. Hakata⇄Nagasaki drops from ¥6,050 to ¥3,600 one-way if you book 3 days ahead on JR Kyushu's site (checked 9 Sept 2026). No JR Pass is needed for this plan.
  3. Season. October–November is the most comfortable (18–20°C). December is cold but Kyushu runs 2–3°C warmer than Tokyo. September is still typhoon season — book changeable tickets.
